Museums in NYC

One of the best gifts New York City has to offer is their museums. There are several notable museums to visit, and each one can take up to a day to explore. Here you can find information of the following museums and exhibitions:
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Cloisters, Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum, American Museum of Natural History, MoMA, and MoMA PS1.
For transportation, please check the MTA website or google maps for current and up-to-date information on how to reach a destination. The MTA subway is subject and prone to change schedules often. Also keep in mind that this blog article is written for individual tourists and out-of-state visitors, so admission fee information will not include special discounts including student  and group tour discounts.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art

By subway: 4/5/6 train to 86 st or 6 train to 77 st. Walk to 82 st and 5th Ave approximately 10 minutes.
It is also possible to walk across Central Park from The Museum of Natural History, B/C train 81 st. Walk is Approximately 20 minutes.
By bus: M1, M2, M3, M4 along 5th Ave, stop near 82 st.

Admission: There are recommended prices, but pay as you wish. Includes same-week admission to The Cloisters.

The Museum is currently undergoing a reconstruction of their iconic front entrance plaza which is planned to be completed on fall 2014.

The Cloisters
The Cloisters is a branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art that focuses on medieval European art and architecture. It features a garden within a building, with approximately 2000 works of art.

By subway: A train to 190 st, walk along park to Cloister entrance.
By bus: M4. The M4 bus runs between The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Cloisters if you plan on a same-day visit to both.

The Guggenheim Museum
Open 10am - 5:45pm, CLOSED on Thursday
Saturday: 10am - 7:45pm *Pay what you wish 5:45pm-7:45pm

American Museum of Natural History
The Museum of Natural History exhibits range from dinosaur fossils, animals from underwater and above, human origins and culture, to the Earth and Planetary halls where you can observe the phenomenons of outer space.

Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

MoMA, The Museum of Modern Art

MoMA PS1
PS1 exhibits one of the most experimental modern art and is affiliated with the MoMa.

12–6 PM, Thursday through Monday, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
On Christmas Eve MoMA PS1 closes at 3 p.m.
